The Surface Physics Lab in National Taiwan Normal University, the first surface |

science lab in Taiwan, was founded in 1987 by Prof. C.S. Shern. In this lab, J.S. Tsay |

started the research works on surface magnetism and nanomagnetism in 1993. The |
| |
first magnetic signal with atomic-layer resolution in Taiwan was detected in 1996 by |
| |
H.Y. Ho (Professor in NTUE now) using surface magneto-optic Kerr effect (SMOKE) |
| technique. The Nano Magnetic Lab was established in Tunghai University in 2000 |
| under the support of National Science Council of ROC. We moved to National Chung |
| Cheng University in 2004 and came back NTNU in 2005. |
